resumption of the navigation of the river from Hong Kong to the Shameen by British merchant ships, and I therefore arranged for Vice- dmiral Shiozawa, the Commander-in-Chief of the Japanese Fifth Fleet operating in South China waters, to come to Hong Kong to meet me there.

17. He arrived in his flagship "MYOKO" on 17th November. My meeting with him was friendly, and certain arrangements were made with him. Some of his promises have been fulfilled while other, due to the obstruction of the Japanese local authorities at Canton, have not. I entertained him and his Staff to luncheon after our conference, and "MYOKO" sailed later in the afternoon.
